Project Management Apprentice

Job Summary:
The Project Management Apprentice supports the planning, coordination, documentation, and tracking of telecommunications and technology projects while developing practical project management knowledge and experience. Under the guidance of the Project Manager and assigned mentors, the Apprentice will assist with projects involving network infrastructure, systems implementation, service deployment, operational improvements, and other business initiatives.
This role is designed to provide structured on-the-job learning in project coordination, scheduling, stakeholder communication, documentation, risk tracking, and project closeout. The Apprentice will progressively take on assigned project tasks and smaller workstreams while learning IT&E project processes, operational requirements, and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Employee will:
1. Know and uphold established IT&E Mission, policies and procedures, departmental and divisional objectives, quality assurance standards, and safety programs.
2. Assist the Project Manager with planning, coordinating, and tracking assigned telecommunications and technology projects.
3. Support the development and maintenance of project plans, work schedules, task lists, milestones, and project trackers.
4. Help coordinate project activities with technical teams, operations, vendors, contractors, and business stakeholders.
5. Prepare meeting agendas, take meeting minutes, document action items, and follow up with responsible parties on outstanding deliverables.
6. Assist with maintaining project documentation, including project plans, status reports, risk and issue logs, implementation updates, and project files.
7. Monitor assigned project tasks, milestones, dependencies, and deadlines; promptly escalate potential delays or issues to the Project Manager.
8. Assist in preparing regular project status updates for leadership and stakeholders.
9. Support project meetings, cross-functional working sessions, operational reviews, and implementation planning activities.
10. Assist with coordinating procurement requests, vendor communications, contractor deliverables, and supporting documentation, as assigned.
11. Participate in project risk identification, issue resolution, change tracking, and corrective-action follow-up under the direction of the Project Manager.
12. Assist with project acceptance testing, implementation readiness activities, operational handoff, and closeout documentation.
13. Learn and apply project management concepts, methodologies, tools, and company processes through structured related instruction and on-the-job training.
14. Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve project documentation, coordination, communication, and workflow efficiency.
15. Complete required apprenticeship coursework, training assignments, progress reviews, and competency assessments.
16. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
Minimum Educational and Work Experience Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Work Experience: No prior project management experience required. Experience in an administrative, customer service, technical support, operations, or telecommunications environment is helpful.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
· Must provide a High School diploma or equivalent.
· Must be a US citizen or resident alien.
· Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
· Must be a resident of Guam for a period not less than three (3) consecutive years before entry into the program.
· Mayor's Verification must be submitted upon hire.
· Must be able to attend a minimum of two (2) classes per semester as identified by program coordinator, while working forty (40) hours per week with IT&E.
Licensure/Certification/Professional Association
· Valid Driver's License preferred.
· Must be willing to complete assigned apprenticeship-related instruction.
· Completion of an entry-level project management course or certification, such as CAPM preparation, may be required as part of the apprenticeship program.
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
· Basic office procedures, recordkeeping, and document management.
· Basic project management concepts, or the ability to learn them.
· Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Skills in:
· Organizing information, tasks, and deadlines.
· Preparing clear written communications, meeting notes, and reports.
· Basic mathematical calculations and data tracking.
· Managing time effectively and following through on assigned tasks.
· Working collaboratively with employees at different levels and across departments.
Ability to:
· Communicate clearly, professionally, and accurately, both verbally and in writing.
· Learn technical and operational information related to telecommunications projects.
· Maintain organized and accurate project records.
