Job Description:
The Technology Solutions Specialist is responsible for the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of customer telecommunication systems, such as voice, data, video, surveillance, security, and access control networks. Performs required cabling and physical installation of PBX systems, Wi-Fi access points, routers, switches, firewalls, and other related telephony and data equipment.
Responsibilities
The Employee will:
- Know and uphold established IT&E Mission, policies and procedures, Department and Division objectives, quality assurance and safety programs and standards.
- Conduct site surveys as required, to view and analyze client equipment and service installation requirements. Assist the Enterprise Sales Department in developing technical responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Invitations to Bid in relation to PBX systems, cabling infrastructure, Managed Wi-Fi service, and other future IT&E telecommunication services.
- Design, implement, and maintain customer PBX voice systems, Wi-Fi networks, and related network components such as routers, switches, firewalls. Ensure that systems meet security and compliance standards.
- Install and maintain customer premise network cabling.
- Provide immediate follow-on engineering assistance, e.g., engineering design or equipment ordering and tracking, on awarded contracts to initiate implementation and provide project continuity until the implementation teams are mobilized and implementation activities are fully underway.
- Assist in keeping engineering or sales records up to date.
- Perform other related duties or tasks as assigned or required.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Education: High School diploma and one year of formal training/education in telecommunications, electronics, computers, or other related technical area.
- Work Experience: At least two (2) years of experience working with corporate and enterprise telephony and data networks.
- Licensure/Certification/Professional Association: Network+ or equivalent certification preferred, but not required
- Legacy and VoIP Telephone systems certification preferred, but not required
- Wireless Networking Certification preferred, but not required
- Security, Surveillance, and Access Control systems certification preferred, but not required
- Certified Fiber Optics Installer (CFOI) preferred, but not required
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
a. Proficient in Structured Cabling Standards - ANSI/TIA/EIA-568 Standards.
b. Experience in managing network devices such as Firewalls, Routers, Switches and Wireless Access Points
c. Experience with IP based and legacy PBX systems such as ESI, Nortel/Avaya, or Mitel
d. Strong background in Ethernet networking technologies and network security concepts.
Skills in:
a. Managing human and material resources
b. Installing, splicing, and locating cable
c. Using various business systems testing equipment
d. Providing good customer service in the resolution of their problems
Ability to:
a. Communicate clearly, concisely and accurately with all levels of staff and customers, bothverbally and in writing
b. Identify and distinguish audible tones and levels
c. Identify and distinguish colors
d. Lift and carry toolboxes, ladders, drop wire, parts containers and installation loads, testequipment, generators, manhole and pull box covers, etc.; climb ladders
e. Analyze and interpret work situations, reports and results
f. Perform in a self-directed, creative and forward-thinking manner
g. Work outdoors in all types of island weather conditions
h. Work in dusty construction-like conditions
4. Other Requirements:
a. Perform overtime work, as needed.
b. Occasional travel to neighboring islands
