HSSE | Health, Safety, Security and Environment Apprentice (IP&E-2096)

This role is responsible for the effective implementation of IP&E’s corporate HSSE programs and initiatives. This role provides support to the HSSE Manager, primarily focusing on the duties and responsibilities stated below.


Responsibilities

 

The Employee will:

  • Monitoring, analyzing and ensuring timely reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for HSSE (i.e. leading and lagging indicators).
  • Supporting HSSE Manager in the analysis of incident data to identify trends in injuries or illnesses, accidents or hazards. 
  • Gathering data and reports for ESG reporting such as power, water and fuel consumption.
  • Monitoring of scheduled drills and exercises for IP&E facilities, in coordination with emergency marshals, Retail Territory Manager and Operations Managers. Ensure that learnings from these exercises are shared to staff as appropriate.
  • Supporting the HSSE Manager in conducting incident reviews and Corrective Action Plan monitoring for significant HSSE incidents.
  • Inspecting work environments to ensure safety and compliance with regulatory requirements, through Line of Defense (LOD) audits. Coordinating with facility owners to close findings identified.
  • Acting as the Focal Point for Management of Change (MOC) by handling submissions, registering and ensuring appropriate approvals are made prior to implementation.
  • Advising work locations of any health or safety issues, including those coming from local health authorities.
  • Developing employee health and hygiene programs, as necessary or as identified thru risk assessments.
  • Maintaining medical monitoring for employees, such as the DOT medical exams for drivers.
  • Supporting the HSSE competency program of the company by: 
    • Assisting the HSSE Manager in creating the HSSE Training Calendar for Staff, based on regulatory and HSSE Management System requirements.
    • Updating and monitoring HSSE training records. Coordinating schedules between external training provider for 3rd party training, Line Managers for staff scheduling, and HSSE Manager for internal training needs.
    • Supporting site Toolbox Meetings and facilitating Toolbox Meetings at Corporate HQ as assigned.
    • Coordinating "right-to-understand" programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances; as well as Guam Pesticide Act requirements for general use pesticides at the workplace.
    • Conducting safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment, as needed. 
    • Updating materials for new employee HSSE orientations and supporting the update of site safety induction materials for facility owners.
  • Supporting the HSSE Manager in developing/updating HSSE guidelines and operational guidelines as necessary.
  • Supporting the HSSE Manager in Safety Meetings and other HSSE programs (e.g. Annual Safety Day)

 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

 

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be a US citizen or resident alien.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be a resident of Guam for a period of not less than three (3) consecutive years before entry into the program.
  • Mayor’s Verification must be submitted upon hire.
  • Must be able to attend a minimum of two (2) classes per semester as identified by program coordinator, while working forty (40) hours per week with IP&E.


Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

  • Understand and apply basic HSSE principles- Knowledge
  • A valid driver’s license


Physical Demands


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical activity of this position includes repetitive motions – making substantial movements of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.

The physical requirements of this position involve sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

For visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field of vision, the worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines.

 

Working Conditions


The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. This job operates mainly in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and other such machines and equipment.
