IT | Jr. Network Administrator Apprentice (IT&E-1806)

The Jr. Network Administrator Apprentice will assist the network administrator to design, build, and maintain data communication networks, including local area networks (LAN) and intranets, which provide connectivity to Enterprise customer VoIP Systems, Wi-fi, Security, CCTV, Access Control, IPTV, and future IT&E Enterprise services.

 

Responsibilities

 

The Employee will:

  • Know and uphold established IT&E Mission, policies and procedures, Department and Division objectives, quality assurance and safety programs and standards.
  • Assist with the Design, build, and maintain data communication networks, including local area
  •  networks (LAN) and intranets, which provide connectivity to Enterprise customer Hosted and On Premises VoIP Systems, Wi-fi, Security, CCTV, Access Control, IPTV, and future IT&E Enterprise services.
  • Assist the department supervisor coordinate the development of bid and proposal submissions to ensure that the technical aspects are fully compliant with the required bid and performance specifications.
  • Make site visits, as required to view and analyze client equipment and service installation requirements, as assigned by the department supervisor.
  • Assist in analyzing client needs and available product options to design the most affordable system that meets the client’s needs and betters that of the competition.
  • Assist in preparing technical write-up of system and subsystem requirements for telecommunications proposals, as required by corporate sales staff.
  • Assist and complete a proposed statement of work requirements for the Information Technology
  • Department or outside for vendors or subcontractors, which will establish the agreed requirements for equipment and/or system performance, installation, testing, and acceptance, delivery schedule, training and documentation responsibilities.
  • Assist with the development of high-level designs and architectures by creating and documenting products and solutions that address customer business problems to be used to ensure a smooth transition from presales to delivery.
  • Work with the Enterprise Sales team in presenting technical proposals with customers until obtaining the customer’s approval, amending initial proposals as required to meet the needs of customers.
  • Monitor system and equipment installation and programming to ensure that technical capabilities and performance meet compliance standards.
  • Provide immediate follow-on engineering assistance, e.g., engineering design or equipment ordering, on awarded contracts to initiate implementation and provide project continuity until the implementation teams are mobilized and implementation activities are fully underway.
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide in-house technical training to corporate sales and installation and maintenance staff in telephony and circuit solutions, and user training to the customer end-user and the customer systems administrator.
  • Provide on-going administration and Tier2 support to the client’s Network Infrastructure, including designing and troubleshooting wired and wireless Ethernet networking technologies (i.e., VLANs, Dot1x, Spanning Tree, Port Channeling, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac etc.)
  • Assist with the identification of potential problem areas before incidents occur using system resource utilization and monitoring tools.
  • Monitor trouble tickets, troubleshoot customer complaints and closing of tickets.
  • Perform other related duties or tasks as assigned or required.


Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

 

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, electronic or related field, or a combination of completion of a technical certificate program and equivalent additional work experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must be a US citizen or resident alien.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have been a resident of Guam for a period not less than three (3) consecutive years before entry into the program.
  • Mayor’s Verification must be submitted upon hire.
  • Must be able to attend a minimum of two (2) classes per semester as identified by program coordinator, while working forty (40) hours per week with IT&E.

 

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills

 

  • Experience working with corporate and enterprise networks is preferred but not required.
  • Certification by the vendor on the various systems and equipment being sold is desirable but is not required at time of hire.


Physical Demands 


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The physical activity of this position includes climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

The physical requirements of this position involve light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

For visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision, the worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.


Working Conditions


The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: No effective protection from weather. The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to extreme cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity. The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Formerly Micronesian Telecommunications Corp, IT&E was a part of Verizon International. CITADEL acquired IT&E in 2005 after successfully navigating the US CIFUS process and the Federal Communications Commission. In 2006, a partnership was established with Sumitomo Corporation, one of Japan’s largest trading houses, which invested in the company as part of its telecommunications push. The company acquired IT&E in Guam, and together, became the largest wireless provider in Micronesia. The entire company was renamed IT&E.
